We were excited to host recently (13th & 14th November 2011) Careforce Lifekeys founder, Dr Allan Meyer speaking over two days at Hope4Life/Elim Cathedral of Hope.
Dr Meyer brought powerful impacting messages of hope, encouragement and a challenge to all who are passionate about caring and teaching sound discipleship principles for those wanting to live happier, healthier lives with purpose as we do life together.
Hope4Life faciliators got the wonderful opportunity to spend a private evening with Dr Meyer chatting, being encouraged, updated on new courses currently being filmed for release next year as well as time to ask any questions.
13th June 2011 - 2 Earthquakes in Christchurch
Just as us Cantabarians were making good recovery progress after the previous two big earthquakes to hit our city, on 13th June 2011 we were again struck with two large events within an hour of each other. This again had catastrophic results for much of the city, especially the eastern suburbs and port hills. Many more homes damaged beyond repair, a sea of liquefaction flooded multiple suburbs and again, shock and trauma for young and old who were back to square with one with no power, water or sewerage and roads/infrastructure badly damaged all over again.
Several Hope4Life team members were working in the city that day and experienced both quakes, we are pleased to say we all got out of our second storey building okay with no injuries. We are getting quite well practised running down stairwells in heels - a little shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Once again the city has sprung into action with the unwavering commitment of the hundreds of people in the farmy army, student army and volunteers heroically turning up in many neighbourhoods during cold winter days armed with their spades, wheelbarrows and diggers - to help complete strangers dig out their properties, give a hug where needed and bring some cheer to the locals.
There are many more unsung heroes who have delivered food, water and blankets to those without heating and water just to get through. Others have opened their homes so people can take showers and do their laundry. The Christchurch City Council have again swiftly got their city care workers to clear drains, dig out streets and fill sink holes in the roads to get the suburbs back up and running again - a big thanks to the many people who have done something to help someone on the other side of town just to let them know you care and are walking with us through these challenging times together.
While the road to recovery has had its setbacks, we are all still moving forward and will keep moving forward until our city and its people are rebuilt physically, emotionally and psychologically. Of utmost importance are our children who have had to endure three major natural disasters within 9 months. On this note, it is our pleasure to forward this link to renowned New Zealand psychologist and tv personality Nigel Latta - who, concerned for the children of Christchurch, made a television programme to help parents with children struggling to cope with the aftermath and life changing events of 4th September, 22nd February and 13th June. Please feel free to share this link with your friends and family.
Peace and strength to you all.
God bless - Kia Kaha Christchurch
